The Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sly Ezeokenwa, has confirmed that Bianca Ojukwu, widow of the late Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, remains a member of APGA despite her appointment as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television program, Ezeokenwa stated that Ojukwu’s ministerial appointment, announced during Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle in October, does not alter her status within APGA.
“She is a member of APGA and a member of the party’s Board of Trustees to date. She has not resigned her membership. Her appointment as a minister was granted with the party’s blessing,” Ezeokenwa said.
APGA Supports Inclusion in Governance
Ezeokenwa praised President Tinubu for embracing inclusivity by appointing individuals from opposition parties to key government positions. He highlighted his earlier call for the President to work across party lines, emphasizing that talent and expertise transcend political affiliations.
“The people who can help achieve the government’s goals are not confined to one party. There are technocrats and capable hands in opposition parties as well,” Ezeokenwa said, adding that Ojukwu’s ministerial role reflects APGA’s commitment to nation-building.
The APGA leader expressed his hope for Tinubu’s success, stating that the well-being of Nigerians should be the ultimate priority.
Supreme Court Upholds Ezeokenwa’s Leadership
On the same day, the Supreme Court affirmed Ezeokenwa’s position as APGA Chairman, dismissing a challenge by Edozie Njoku. The apex court described Njoku’s suit as frivolous and awarded a N20 million fine against him.
Ezeokenwa lauded the judgment, which he described as a victory for APGA’s unity and focus. He reiterated that Ojukwu’s appointment as a minister is a significant achievement for the opposition party and a testament to its readiness to collaborate in fostering an inclusive government.
Bianca Ojukwu’s continued affiliation with APGA underscores the party’s flexibility and strategic alignment in contributing to national governance while retaining its identity as an opposition force.
