JMG Limited, a Nigerian provider of integrated electro-mechanical solutions, has hosted engineering students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for an educational tour of its JMG and Jamara production facility in Gbagada, Lagos, as part of activities marking World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development 2026.
The visit was organised in line with this year’s global theme, “Smart Engineering for a Sustainable Future Through Innovation and Digitalization.”
A total of 13 engineering students from the Faculty of Engineering at UNILAG, accompanied by two representatives of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), participated in the tour. The students were guided through the production facility by members of JMG’s engineering team, while a Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) officer ensured strict adherence to safety protocols throughout the visit.
During the tour, the students observed key production processes and gained practical insights into how engineering innovation, smart systems, and digital technologies are applied in industrial operations. The programme also featured an interactive session where the students engaged with engineers at the facility, discussing real-world engineering applications and career opportunities within the sector.
Speaking during the visit, the Plant Manager, Production at JMG, Fouad El Chami, stressed the importance of hands-on industry exposure in shaping the next generation of engineers.
“Engineering is best understood not only in classrooms but through real industrial experience. Opening our facility to students allows them to see innovation, technology, and problem-solving in action,” he said.
El Chami added that initiatives such as factory tours help bridge the gap between theory and practice while encouraging students to embrace innovation, digitalisation, and sustainable engineering practices.
The visit, according to the company, reflects JMG’s commitment to supporting engineering education, strengthening collaboration between industry and academia, and inspiring young professionals who will contribute to Nigeria’s technological and industrial advancement.
JMG provides services across several sectors, including power generation, electrical infrastructure, vertical transportation, cooling systems, and air compressors, supported by a workforce of engineers specialising in mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer, and chemical engineering.
