JMG Limited, an integrated electro-mechanical solutions company, has called for stronger collaboration among government, industry and educational institutions to equip young Nigerians with future-ready skills needed to drive innovation, boost employability and support sustainable economic growth.
The company made the call to commemorate the 2026 World Youth Skills Day, observed annually on July 15. The theme for this year’s celebration, “Skills for a Shared Future,” underscores the need to equip young people with technical, digital, artificial intelligence, green and soft skills required in a rapidly evolving global workforce.
JMG said it has continued to demonstrate its commitment to youth development by providing students with practical industry exposure through educational tours and hands-on learning experiences.
In March, the company hosted engineering students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) at its Gbagada facility to mark World Engineering Day, where they received practical training and insights into engineering processes and industrial innovation.
As part of its 2026 Children’s Day activities, JMG also welcomed science students from Wellspring College to the facility, exposing them to manufacturing operations, engineering systems and production processes.
According to the company, the initiatives are designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and industrial practice while preparing the next generation of engineers and technology professionals.
Speaking on the significance of World Youth Skills Day, JMG’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Gloria Ibeziako, said sustained investment in skills development and stronger partnerships between education and industry are essential to preparing young people for the future.
“The future of every economy depends on the quality of its people. As technology continues to reshape industries, we must ensure that young people are equipped not only with technical knowledge but also with the digital, problem-solving and collaborative skills that will enable them to compete and succeed anywhere in the world,” she said.
Ibeziako noted that while emerging technologies are transforming workplaces, they are also creating new opportunities for youths who embrace continuous learning and innovation.
She urged organisations to complement job creation with mentorship programmes, workplace exposure and technical training that align academic learning with industry needs.
According to her, developing relevant skills among young people is critical to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial capacity and achieving long-term economic growth.
“Skills development is not just an investment in individuals; it is an investment in national progress. By nurturing a workforce that is innovative, adaptable and future-focused, we are laying the foundation for stronger industries, more resilient businesses and shared prosperity,” she added.
