The Executive Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, Hon. (Barr.) Zacchaeus Dare Michael, has commended residents for their vigilance and commitment to security surveillance, following credible intelligence shared with authorities on the movement of herders through the area.
Community members had alerted security officials about a group of herders with over 1,000 cattle advancing towards the LGA from the south-west flank via Ekinrin-Adde and Iyara, on the Kabba/Bunu–Ijumu border.
Acting on the intelligence, the Chairman immediately mobilized security agencies, the LGA tactical team, and the Joint Security Task Force (JTF). The team intercepted the herders at Odulu community along the Kabba/Iyara expressway, where they were found with livestock, camping gear, and other supplies.
During interrogation, the herders disclosed they were traveling from the South-West and heading towards Edo State in the South-South region. Security operatives subsequently escorted them through Kabba/Bunu to ensure a seamless passage, preventing unauthorized stopovers that could potentially trigger farmers-herders clashes or other security breaches.
Hon. Dare Michael confirmed that the herders and their cattle had been successfully escorted out of the LGA. He praised residents for their timely intelligence sharing, stressing that such synergy between citizens and authorities was vital to sustaining peace and security.
The Chairman further reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while prioritizing the security and overall development of Kabba/Bunu.
