The Labour Party has welcomed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) official recognition of its Interim National Leadership, led by Senator Nenadi Usman, describing the move as a victory for the rule of law and constitutional order.

Checks on the INEC website on Friday showed that Usman has been listed as chairperson of the party’s caretaker committee, in line with a court order directing the electoral body to recognise the interim leadership.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser on Media to Senator Usman, said the party commended INEC for complying with the court directive and “standing firmly on the side of the law, justice, and constitutionalism.”

The party said the development marked an end to months of internal uncertainty and distractions, calling on its members nationwide to rally behind the interim leadership as it works to reposition the party ahead of future elections.

“As a major opposition party, the Labour Party remains committed to providing Nigerians with a credible, people-oriented alternative platform,” the statement said, stressing that unity and collective effort were essential to achieving that objective.

The party also thanked its supporters across the country for their resilience and unwavering support, while commending the judiciary for upholding justice and the media for its commitment to fairness and truth.

Reaffirming its resolve to rebuild party structures nationwide, the Labour Party appealed for patience and continued support from Nigerians, pledging to work tirelessly to restore the party’s electoral fortunes ahead of the next election cycle.
