The Lagos State Government has announced the reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge in the Maryland area, less than two months after its temporary closure for rehabilitation. The Commissioner for Transport, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, made this known in a statement on Monday.
Osiyemi revealed that the bridge’s rehabilitation, managed by the Ministry of Works, began on July 22, 2024. Originally slated as a 90-day project, the work was completed ahead of schedule, significantly improving traffic flow between the Mainland and Island.
“We are pleased to announce that the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge has been reopened by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, well ahead of schedule. The project, initially planned for 90 days, was completed in under two months, reflecting the exceptional commitment of all stakeholders,” Osiyemi stated.
The commissioner commended the Ministry of Works for its oversight and technical expertise, as well as the Ministry of Transportation for managing traffic logistics during the rehabilitation. He also thanked Lagosians for their patience and cooperation throughout the project.
Osiyemi added, “The reopening of the Odo Iya Alaro Bridge is a major step in improving our city’s infrastructure. It promises smoother traffic and better connectivity between the Mainland and Island. We also appreciate the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for their outstanding work in traffic management during the rehabilitation.”
The successful completion of the project underscores the state’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and easing movement within Lagos.
