Lagos State has taken a significant leap in modernizing its revenue collection and management with the launch of the Lagos Revenue Portal (LRP), an advanced automated platform for the collection of all taxes and levies payable to the state government. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially introduced the user-friendly digital portal on Thursday, highlighting its role in streamlining the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) processes.
The LRP, an evolution of the Electronic Banking System of Revenue Cycle Management (EBS-RCM), integrates various collection channels into a single, unified system. This innovation marks a major milestone in Lagos State’s ongoing digitization efforts, a journey that began in 2001 under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Sanwo-Olu described the LRP as a “game-changer” for the state’s revenue administration, emphasizing its role in enhancing transparency, accountability, and the ease of doing business in Lagos. He noted that the digital platform removes barriers that previously hindered the efficiency and capacity of revenue-generating ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
“This is yet another important milestone in our collective effort to transform Lagos into the most business-friendly state in the country,” Sanwo-Olu stated. “Efficient revenue collection is crucial for funding critical infrastructure, providing essential services, and improving the quality of life for every Lagosian.”
Sanwo-Olu urged the tax-paying public and stakeholders to embrace the new system, stressing that the success of the portal depends on its widespread adoption. He called on residents to leverage the platform to simplify their interactions with the government, thereby contributing to the state’s growth and development.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Taxation and Revenue, Mr. Abdul-Kabir Ogungbo, highlighted that the LRP is a key component of Lagos State’s strategic revenue framework. The portal, he explained, has fully integrated the data and processes of revenue-generating MDAs, achieving sector-based harmonization and allowing businesses to make centralized payments within the same sector.
The Chairman of Lagos Inland Revenue Service (LIRS), Mr. Ayodele Subair, expressed confidence that the new portal would enhance operational efficiency and reinforce citizens’ trust in the government. The Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Beta Consulting, Mr. Akinsanya Doherty, added that the portal empowers citizens with the information needed to contribute to Lagos State’s growth, underscoring the role of technology in improving transparency and efficiency in governance.
