Lagos State, Nigeria’s city of aquatic splendour, will host the Africa Blue Economy Summit tomorrow, October 3, positioning both the city and Nigeria as leaders in the continent’s Blue Economy.

The summit, themed “Harnessing Africa’s Blue Natural Capital for Sustainable Growth,” will take place at Azuri Towers, Eko Atlantic City. Attendees include Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Didier Drogba, President of the Didier Drogba Foundation and Co-Founder of E1 Team Drogba; Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Founder and CEO of the Dangote Group; Prof. Benedict Oramah, President and Chairman of Afreximbank; Rodi Basso, CEO and Co-Founder of the E1 Series; and other national, African, and global leaders who will address participants on various topics.

According to a statement from Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation and Chairman of the Technical and Operations Committee of the E1 Lagos GP, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the summit aims to create actionable pathways for transforming Africa’s ocean and freshwater resources into sustainable engines of growth.

“The Africa Blue Economy Summit – Lagos 2025 is a catalyst signaling Africa’s leadership in blue carbon, regenerative economic growth, sustainable fisheries, ocean waste-to-value innovation, and coastal protection. It positions Lagos as the continental hub for innovation, investment, and collaboration,” Osiyemi said.

The summit will bring together leaders, scientists, investors, entrepreneurs, and youth around a shared vision for a resilient and inclusive Blue Economy. It highlights Africa’s marine and coastal resources as both critical ecological assets and strategic economic tools for climate adaptation, job creation, and regional prosperity.

A core feature of the summit is the Thought Leadership Forum, which will provide a high-level platform for policymakers, global ocean experts, financiers, innovators, and community leaders to share insights, challenge assumptions, and co-develop strategies to scale Africa’s Blue Economy.
