The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has issued a public advisory cautioning schools, educational institutions, and organized groups against making any payments for excursions on its transport infrastructure, including the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) services.
In a statement on Thursday, the agency emphasized that it does not charge fees, levies, or administrative costs for processing or approving excursion requests. It noted that all approvals for group visits are provided at no cost.
LAMATA outlined the required procedure for institutions planning excursions: an official request letter must be addressed to the Managing Director, detailing the proposed date, time, route, and number of participants. A formal approval letter must then be obtained from the management before the trip begins, a step the agency described as essential for logistics coordination and safety.
The transport authority warned that any demand for payment—outside the standard Cowry Card fares paid by individual commuters—should be treated as fraudulent. It urged the public to disregard such requests and refrain from engaging with unauthorized persons.
