The summer transfer window has gathered pace, with several high-profile deals edging closer to completion as Europe’s top clubs continue to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season.
Real Madrid are at the centre of the latest transfer activity after reportedly overtaking Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign highly rated winger Yan Diomande. The Spanish giants are now expected to secure the forward’s signature after PSG withdrew over the financial demands of the deal.
Diomande had reportedly agreed personal terms with the French champions earlier this summer, but Real Madrid moved quickly to take advantage of the stalled negotiations. Although RB Leipzig would prefer to retain the winger, the Bundesliga club are believed to be open to a club-record sale worth more than €120 million.
The outcome of Diomande’s transfer could also have implications for Arsenal and Liverpool, both of whom have shown interest in Bradley Barcola.
Arsenal are also monitoring Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior, although any potential move is expected to depend on whether the Brazil international agrees a new contract with the La Liga club.
Real Madrid are additionally reported to be pursuing Manchester City midfielder Rodri as they continue an ambitious recruitment drive.
Chelsea have also emerged as one of the busiest clubs in the market, with discussions underway over two experienced Premier League players.
The Blues are reportedly exploring a move for Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck as new manager Xabi Alonso looks to add experience to his youthful squad. The 35-year-old former England international has one year remaining on his contract and is said to be open to the move, raising the possibility of a swift agreement.
Chelsea are also interested in Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson after failing to land Granit Xhaka. Reports suggest the former Liverpool captain could join on a free transfer due to his relationship with Brentford, despite attracting interest from other clubs.
Henderson is currently recovering from a broken arm sustained during the FIFA World Cup but made 22 league starts last season and remains a key target for Chelsea.
Elsewhere, former Manchester City defender John Stones is attracting interest following the expiration of his contract at the Etihad Stadium. While Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with the England international, Inter Milan are reportedly leading the race for his signature.
Italian media reports claim Stones has verbally agreed to join the Serie A champions on a two-year contract as Inter seek defensive reinforcements following the departures of Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi.
Meanwhile, Leeds United have agreed a club-record deal to sign Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford. The England international is set to leave the Premier League champions after spending just one season back at the club.
Trafford, who lost his place following the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma, is expected to join Leeds in a deal worth at least €47 million, making him the most expensive English goalkeeper in history. Newcastle United had also shown interest but reportedly withdrew after the player made it clear he preferred a move to Elland Road.
