Tensions in the Middle East have sharply escalated as Iran’s recent actions, including missile attacks and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, prompted warnings from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General al-Budaiwi, who said Tehran has “overcome all red lines.”
The United States threatened Iran with unprecedented military retaliation if it does not accept defeat, while Tehran rejected talks and vowed to continue retaliatory actions. US and Israeli airstrikes on Iranian targets continue, with Iranian missiles striking central and northern Israel.
Israeli forces also launched strikes in southern Lebanon as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to expand a so-called “buffer zone.” At least two people were killed and three injured in Abu Dhabi from falling debris, while Bahrain, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia intercepted Iranian missiles and drones.
Iran’s Deputy Health Minister Ali Jafarian told Al Jazeera that at least 1,937 people have been killed during the US-Israeli conflict. GCC Secretary-General al-Budaiwi called for a diplomatic solution to end attacks on Gulf states.
Regional defense measures continue, with Jordan reporting that three Iranian missiles fired in the past 24 hours were all intercepted. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are underway: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Dar confirmed Islamabad is relaying messages between the US and Iran, while Malaysia’s Prime Minister Ibrahim stated that Malaysian vessels are now allowed to transit the Strait of Hormuz following discussions with regional leaders.
