Renowned Nigerian AfroGospel artist, Mike Abdul, is set to release a new single titled Fuji Rush on June 20, marking another significant entry into his catalogue following the success of his hit track Ojoro.
In a departure from his usual style, Fuji Rush infuses modern string and horn progressions into the traditionally percussion-heavy Fuji sound, resulting in an energetic blend that celebrates African gospel in a fresh and vibrant way.
Described as a product of months of meticulous work, the track targets both Nigerian and international audiences, according to a statement announcing its release.
“Taking the church to the streets is what we do. Fuji Rush is another expression of that mission,” said Abdul, best known for hits like Eyan Jesu, Igwe, Korede, and 30 Billion Halleluyah. “If you can carry your body in praise, carry it with Fuji Rush,” he added.
Michael Olayinka Abdul, popularly known as Mike Abdul, has played a pioneering role in shaping the AfroGospel genre by blending gospel themes with traditional African sounds and modern musical techniques. From his early days with the iconic Midnight Crew to his solo career, Abdul has consistently delivered music that bridges faith and culture.
Speaking on his creative process, Abdul noted that much of his inspiration is spiritually driven. “From a spiritual standpoint, I would say that I just step out of the way when God is trying to pass a message through me,” he explained. “Even when a direction doesn’t make business sense, when I obey the leading, the results are always amazing.”
Fuji Rush continues Abdul’s tradition of storytelling through music, incorporating multiple languages and musical influences—from Highlife to Apala—aimed at connecting with a broad and diverse audience.
The new release further cements Mike Abdul’s place as a transformative figure in contemporary Nigerian gospel music, promising another uplifting anthem for worshippers and music lovers alike.
