MTN Nigeria has announced the commencement of entries for Season 2 of its reality music competition, Next Afrobeats Star (NAS), expanding opportunities for emerging Nigerian music talents following the success of its inaugural edition.
The competition, produced in partnership with Ultima Studios and ONErpm, returns with an enhanced prize package and a renewed commitment to discovering and developing the country’s next Afrobeats sensation.
Speaking on the launch, MTN Nigeria’s General Manager for Brands and Communication, Emamoke Ogoro, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to empowering young Nigerians by creating platforms that transform talent into opportunity.
According to her, the first season not only gave contestants national exposure but also enabled them to release original music on major global streaming platforms while retaining ownership of their intellectual property.
“Season 1 was our proof. As we return for Season 2, the most significant change is not the size of the prize; it is the size of the door it opens. We are opening that door even wider by connecting grassroots talent to a national stage,” Ogoro said.
She added that the competition aligns with MTN’s broader efforts to support Nigeria’s growing creative economy through innovation, strategic partnerships and youth development.
This year’s winner will receive a recording deal valued at ₦225 million, covering music production, marketing, distribution and accommodation, in addition to a brand-new car. The first runner-up will receive a ₦150 million recording deal, while the second, third and fourth runners-up will receive deals worth ₦100 million, ₦75 million and ₦50 million, respectively.
Contestants will be assessed by a panel of industry professionals, including renowned producers and songwriters Puffy Tee, Ragee, Andre Vibez and Masterkraft, who will mentor participants throughout the competition.
Season 1 produced notable talents, including winner Ayo Benzi, who secured a ₦150 million recording deal, alongside finalists Dave Cash, Kaeko, Somto O’Laker and Lucky Yay!, all of whom also received recording contracts.
Chief Executive Officer of Ultima Studios, Femi Ayeni, said the second season would build on the achievements of the first by providing greater opportunities for aspiring artists.
He described Next Afrobeats Star as more than a television programme, calling it “a real pipeline into the music business” that offers structured support, investment and career development for emerging musicians.
Entries for Season 2 opened on July 18 and will close on August 17, 2026. Interested contestants can register by sending NAS to 13013. A registration fee of ₦600 applies, after which applicants will receive a link to complete their registration and upload their audition entries.
Regional auditions will be held in Lagos, Jos, Enugu and Benin, with shortlisted contestants advancing through various competition stages, including the Trials, Versus, Pick Me, Live Shows and the Grand Showdown. The eventual winner will be determined through public voting.
MTN Nigeria said the initiative underscores its commitment to nurturing young talent and supporting the continued global growth of Afrobeats while contributing to the development of Nigeria’s creative industry.
