The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reported that domestic airlines delayed 4,765 flights and cancelled 36 others in August 2026.
The regulator disclosed this on Sunday in a post on its official X handle while releasing its monthly summary of domestic airline operations.
According to the NCAA, 15 airlines operated 7,961 flights during the month, with 59.9 per cent affected by delays.
Air Peace recorded the highest number of operations at 1,864 flights, of which 1,330, representing 71.4 per cent, were delayed.
The NCAA also sanctioned RwandAir N15 million for violating consumer protection regulations over a passenger’s damaged baggage.
The NCAA spokesperson, Michael Achimugu, disclosed the sanction in a post on his X handle on Friday.
He said the fine was imposed after the airline failed to resolve the passenger’s baggage complaint within the stipulated timeframe.
The NCAA also directed RwandAir to replace the damaged bag and pay the passenger $170 as first-need compensation.
Achimugu said the action was in line with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which provides for consumer protection, compensation and other remedies for air passengers.
The authority said the sanction underscored the need for airlines to resolve passenger complaints promptly and comply with consumer protection regulations.
