NCSP Hosts Chinese Consortium to Strengthen Investment Ties

By Ayomide Otitoju

The Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership (NCSP) has hosted a delegation from Newryton International Industrial Development Co. Ltd, a major Chinese investment and industrial development consortium, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral trade, industrial cooperation, and development financing between both countries.

The delegation, led by Mr. David Chen, Assistant Secretary-General of the China Hainan Investment Council, had earlier met with the Nigerian Association of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA). They were introduced to the NCSP by Mr. Joe Onyuike, Vice-Chairman of NACCIMA’s Agriculture and Livestock Trade Group, who reiterated the association’s support for deepening engagement with Chinese investors.

Talks focused on the establishment of a Nigeria–China Trade and Investment Platform, including a proposed Promotion Centre in China to support Nigerian products, investors, and state governments seeking entry into Asian markets. The consortium also highlighted investment prospects in Hainan Province’s Free Trade Port (FTP), which provides preferential policies that could boost Nigerian exports and attract new capital.

Speaking on behalf of Newryton, Mr. Pong outlined plans to work with the NCSP to access FOCAC-backed financing for strategic projects in agriculture, energy, mining, solid minerals processing, and related sectors. He identified aquaculture as a priority area and referenced the upcoming Global Aquaculture Conference in Hainan, urging Nigerian stakeholders to participate. The delegation also expressed interest in expanding cooperation in vocational training and employment under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Welcoming the team, NCSP’s Head of Internal Operations, Martins Olajide, representing the Director-General, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to building mutually beneficial partnerships. He emphasised NCSP’s strong interest in the proposed trade and investment platform and described the Nigerian Oil Palm Industrial Park as a potential flagship project for collaboration.

NCSP’s Head of International Relations, Judy Melifonwu, highlighted the opportunities presented by China’s zero-tariff policies and the forthcoming NAQS–GACC protocol on the export of Nigerian aquaculture products. She said the evolving frameworks would enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness and open new pathways for market expansion.
