The Chief Judge of Ekiti State, Justice John Adeyeye, has died at the age of 64. Justice Adeyeye, who was appointed Chief Judge on October 11, 2021, passed away on Monday, leaving a significant void in the state’s judiciary.
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, expressed profound sadness over the news, describing Justice Adeyeye’s death as a “colossal loss” to the state. In a statement released on Tuesday through his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji offered condolences to the family of the late jurist.
“This is indeed a great loss to our dear state. On behalf of the Government and people of Ekiti State, I extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the late Hon. Justice Adeyeye. May the good Lord console and comfort them, and grant the departed eternal rest,” the statement read.
Governor Oyebanji lauded Justice Adeyeye’s legacy as a “firm and forthright jurist” known for his dedication to the principles of equity and justice. He praised the late judge’s efforts in strengthening the judiciary in Ekiti, advocating for judicial independence, and ensuring the judiciary’s role in good governance and the protection of citizens’ rights.
Justice Adeyeye was also remembered for championing improved welfare for judicial officers and staff members, contributing to a more efficient judicial system in Ekiti.
The governor prayed for strength and comfort for Justice Adeyeye’s family, the people of Araromi Ugbesi in Ekiti East Local Government Area, and members of the Bar and Bench. He urged the family to take solace in the judge’s enduring impact on the justice sector and his dedication to Ekiti State’s progress.
