The Defence Headquarters has announced that troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces, alongside other security agencies, have neutralised 1,937 terrorists, arrested 2,782 suspects, and rescued 1,854 kidnapped hostages in the third quarter of 2024. During these operations, 65 high-ranking terrorist commanders were also eliminated.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, outlined the significant offensive actions, which led to the neutralisation of key terrorist leaders and combatants. Among those killed were notorious figures such as Munzir Arika, Sani Dilla, Ameer Modu, Matawal Bitrus, and several others.
The operations also resulted in the recovery of 1,304 weapons and 43,347 rounds of ammunition. Additionally, the troops thwarted oil theft operations, denying criminals an estimated N13 billion.
General Buba affirmed that with continued support from state governments, the military will intensify efforts to degrade terrorists and violent extremists until they are completely neutralized.
