Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), disrupted proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday, accusing Justice James Omotosho of attempting to deny him the right to present a final written address in his terrorism trial.
As the judge prepared to deliver the verdict, Kanu insisted on his right to make a final submission, challenging the court to cite any constitutional provision allowing such a right to be waived. Raising his voice, he told the judge, “You don’t know the law. Show me where you have the right to waive my right to a final address. Show me what the Constitution says, you cannot show me!”
Justice Omotosho warned that the trial had moved past the stage for final addresses and urged Kanu to behave appropriately. Despite repeated warnings, Kanu continued his outburst, leading the judge to order his removal from the courtroom.
The IPOB leader was escorted out, and the court proceeded to deliver the final judgment in his absence.
