The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has officially confirmed that the newly rehabilitated Port Harcourt refinery will sell petrol at N1,030 per litre. This announcement was made in a statement by the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) on Thursday night.
Earlier reports from PETROAN had suggested that the price was N1,045 per litre, but this was later corrected. The NNPC clarified at the time that no official pricing had been released, as the purchasing portal had not yet been opened. With the portal now operational, the official price of petrol at the refinery is set at N1,030 per litre.
PETROAN spokesperson, Joseph Obele, confirmed the update, stating, “NNPC Retail Ltd has officially announced the PMS price at the Port Harcourt refinery as N1,030 per litre. It was also communicated to PETROAN that the product request portal was open for booking/request.”
In addition to clarifying the price, Obele also addressed earlier reports questioning the refinery’s functionality. He stated that the Port Harcourt refinery is currently running at 70% of its capacity. This development is part of NNPC’s ongoing efforts to revitalize the country’s refineries, with plans for the new 200,000-barrel-per-day refinery to begin production soon.
Both refineries, located in Eleme, Rivers State, play a vital role in Nigeria’s oil production. PETROAN has expressed interest in collaborating with all active refineries in the country to improve fuel availability and distribution.
This update follows a recent visit by the Senate Committee on Petroleum Resources, which confirmed the refinery’s operational status and witnessed petroleum trucks being loaded at the facility.
