The NNPC Foundation Ltd/Gte, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of NNPC Ltd., has launched three major initiatives to enhance healthcare, education, and agriculture across Nigeria.
The programs, which include free cataract surgeries, STEM education support, and agricultural training for farmers, reflect NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to improving lives and fostering national development.
Following the success of its cataract surgery program in the South-West—where 1,002 surgeries were performed, including for children born blind—the foundation is extending the initiative to the South-East and South-South. The program will subsequently cover the three Northern regions and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). With cataracts responsible for over 43% of blindness cases in Nigeria, the initiative aims to restore vision for 6,000 individuals, providing free screenings, surgeries, and post-operative care. The next phase is scheduled to begin on March 31, 2025, in the South-East and South-South.
In education, the foundation is addressing gaps in STEM learning by donating 25,000 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) textbooks and branded bookshelves to 25 secondary schools across 24 states and the FCT. This follows a previous phase that saw 15,000 STEM books distributed to 12 states and the FCT. The initiative aims to improve student engagement in science and technology, boosting enrollment in related fields at tertiary institutions.
The foundation’s efforts align with its broader vision of creating sustainable opportunities and driving social impact nationwide.
