The Anambra State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Comdt. Maku Olatunde A., on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, embarked on a statewide assessment of security arrangements to ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration. The visit follows the deployment of 2,409 personnel across strategic locations as part of the Command’s festive season operational order.
During the patrol, which covered various flashpoints, Comdt. Maku emphasized the importance of maintaining calm and peaceful celebrations. He commended the professionalism displayed by officers and urged them to remain vigilant to deter any disruption of public peace.
“The Command has rolled out all its human and operational assets to curb criminal activities before, during, and after the festive period,” Maku stated. “We are leveraging actionable intelligence and strategically deploying our resources to combat violent crimes such as vandalism, kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry, and cultism.”
Reaffirming the NSCDC’s commitment to securing lives and property, Comdt. Maku issued a stern warning to criminal elements, urging them to abandon any plans to cause violence or public disturbance. He assured the public of the Command’s readiness, in collaboration with other security agencies, to sustain the state’s relative peace.
He also appealed for collective efforts from residents to report suspicious activities, stressing that shielding criminals undermines public safety.
Comdt. Maku’s visit included key locations such as the Solution Innovation Center, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church Awka, Aroma Junction, Unizik Junction, Kwata Junction, and Eke Market, among others. The ongoing assessment is set to continue throughout the festive period to reinforce security measures.
In his goodwill message, the State Commandant extended Christmas greetings to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Audi, OFR, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, and Christians across the state and beyond.
The Commandant was accompanied by senior officers, including Assistant Commandants of Corps Chinweze Chinenye (Operations), Ulasi Okwuchukwu (VIP Protection Unit), Ewogu Chinedum (Intelligence and Investigation), and other key personnel.
