NSCDC Anambra Unveils Multipurpose Building at AGM

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) celebrated a landmark achievement on Friday, November 22, 2024, with the commissioning of a one-storey Cooperative Multipurpose Building during the 15th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the NSCDC Staff Cooperative, Investment, and Credit Society Limited.

The event, held at the Cooperative House, located behind the Nigeria Immigration State Headquarters in Agu Awka, marked a significant milestone in the cooperative’s history.

The State Commandant, Comdt. Maku Olatunde, who performed the commissioning on behalf of the NSCDC Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, lauded the executives for their vision and execution of the project. He described the edifice as a symbol of the cooperative’s dedication to improving the welfare of its members, noting that the structure would generate income and enhance operational capacity.

“I commend the leadership of this cooperative for their quality, transparent, and inclusive administration,” said Comdt. Maku. “This project stands as a testament to their commitment to the welfare of members. I urge them to sustain this momentum and explore further opportunities for growth.”

Features and Financing
The Cooperative President, Superintendent of Corps Tochukwu Umeohana, detailed the multipurpose building’s features, which include an event hall, warehouse, office spaces, shops, and a mini-mart. He revealed that the project was financed entirely through members’ savings and patronage, underscoring the society’s prudent financial management.

Guest Speakers and Highlights
The AGM’s guest speaker, Mr. Nwike, delivered a lecture on the theme “Cooperative as a Panacea to Good Lifestyle and Wellness in Retirement,” emphasizing the importance of cooperatives in securing financial stability and quality of life for members during retirement.

Goodwill messages from Mrs. Nwabugo Okonkwo, Director of Cooperatives, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and Mrs. B.C. Odoegbunam, Divisional Cooperative Officer for Awka South, highlighted the NSCDC Cooperative Society’s role as a model for prudent and transparent management.

They commended the society’s achievements, including the prompt payment of retirees’ benefits, provision of 100 plots of land to members, and easy access to loans.

Other Activities
The event featured the presentation of the 2023 Audited Annual Report, the distribution of retirement benefits, and a raffle draw. Attendees celebrated the cooperative’s achievements, reaffirming its dedication to members’ welfare and the long-term sustainability of its initiatives.

The commissioning of the building marks a new chapter for the NSCDC Anambra Cooperative Society, showcasing its commitment to fostering financial growth and improving members’ quality of life.
