Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to sustain good governance and continue delivering the dividends of democracy following his re-election.
Obasanjo made the call on Sunday night when he paid a surprise congratulatory visit to Adeleke at his country home in Ede, Osun State.
The former president congratulated the governor and prayed for continued success in his second term, urging him to remain focused on meeting the needs of the people.
“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people,” Obasanjo told Adeleke.
The governor, who expressed surprise at the visit, thanked Obasanjo for the gesture and pledged to remain committed to serving the people of Osun State.
“Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, the Osun people and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,” Adeleke said.
Obasanjo was accompanied by his ally, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, and was received by Adeleke, who welcomed the former president with dancing and songs of praise following his victory.
Osun State Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, also joined Adeleke in receiving the former president.
Adeleke, who was first elected governor in 2022, secured a fresh four-year term in Saturday’s governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party, having left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in December 2025.
He polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke’s re-election triggered celebrations across Osun State, with supporters taking to the streets after he was declared the winner.
