Presidential candidate of the New Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared his readiness to stand with Nigerians determined to defend their votes and fight for what he described as the rescue of the country.
Obi made the declaration on Thursday while addressing supporters at a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, urging them not to be intimidated as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Don’t be intimidated. Somebody said, ‘We are ready to die.’ Let me tell you, I’m equally ready to die. So you’re not alone,” Obi said.
The former Anambra State governor urged Nigerians to ensure that their votes count, calling on them to actively defend the electoral process.
“All they want is for you to defend and demand that the vote must count. And that is the demand we are going to make, and make aggressively,” he said.
Obi warned that attempts could be made to manipulate the electoral process but expressed confidence that such efforts would face stronger resistance in the next election.
“Yes, they will try to manipulate it. But let me tell you, it will not be easy this time,” he said.
He also encouraged Nigerians to participate actively in political campaigns, saying the country could only be rescued through collective action.
The NDC presidential candidate warned against allowing electoral irregularities to persist, arguing that poor leadership and a flawed political system were already contributing to the hardship facing Nigerians.
“By allowing them to continue, that glitch will glitch our life. That’s why we are suffering today,” he said.
Obi also linked the state of the country’s refineries to leadership failures.
“Our refinery is bad because our leadership is bad,” he said.
