The Obijackson Foundation has rounded off the Obijackson Group’s three-day annual staff retreat with its inaugural Walkathon in Okija, drawing an enthusiastic turnout from staff, community leaders, and residents across the town.
The event transformed Okija into a lively hub of activity as employees from Lagos, Port Harcourt, Warri, Abuja and other locations joined the Traditional Ruler of Okija, His Royal Majesty Igwe Emeka Nnamdi Okezie, members of his cabinet, and hundreds of community members—including youths, elders, families and fitness enthusiasts—for a 6-kilometre wellness walk.
The Walkathon, which began at the Obijackson Golf Course and ended at Amaranta after passing through major town routes including the Okija Junction road, featured warm-up sessions, wellness checks, hydration points, music, and health education coordinated by volunteers and Foundation staff.
The Foundation said the initiative aligns with its commitment to advancing preventive healthcare, physical activity and community wellness, particularly in Anambra State where it runs several social impact programmes.
Founder of the Obijackson Foundation, Dr. Ernest Azudialu-Obiejesi, who participated alongside his wife, Mrs. Nnenna Obiejesi, commended the strong participation from staff and residents.
“I am deeply encouraged by the level of participation and enthusiasm shown today,” he said. “Health and wellness remain at the centre of our mission, and this Walkathon is a reminder that simple activities like walking can transform lives. Seeing our staff, community leaders and residents embrace healthy living is truly inspiring.”
Participants described the event as energising, noting its blend of physical exercise, cultural connection and shared learning. The Foundation highlighted the benefits of regular walking, including improved heart health, enhanced stamina and fitness, reduced stress, better mood, stronger community bonds and increased awareness of healthy lifestyle habits.
For Obijackson Group staff, the Walkathon served as a refreshing close to the intensive retreat, which held at the Acropolis Resort in Okija—a modern facility owned by the Group and designed for corporate gatherings, strategy sessions, team-building and wellness engagements.
Attendees praised the resort’s serene environment, natural landscape, recreational amenities and dedicated support staff, which they said contributed to a productive and memorable retreat. With the successful outing, Acropolis is being positioned as a premier destination for organisations seeking retreats that combine productivity, relaxation and wellness.
The Obijackson Foundation announced that the Walkathon will now become an annual event in line with its health and wellness mandate.
“We will keep championing programmes that uplift our people—physically, mentally and socially,” Dr. Azudialu-Obiejesi added. “Today’s Walkathon marks the beginning of a tradition that will grow stronger each year.”
