Accounting Officers and other officials in charge of financial records in the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Ogun State have been challenged to ensure total compliance with the principles of accountability and transparency, through proper recording of financial expenses and revenue accruable to their agencies for the holistic implementation and assessment of the State 2021 Appropriation Act.
The Chairmen House of Assembly Committee on Youths, Sport and Employment Generation and Oil, Gas and Energy, Honourables Abdul Oladunjoye and Olusola Adams respectively, threw the challenge during the ongoing budget performance appraisal at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
They pointed out that it was important for the Accounting Officers to ensure proper classification of recurrent expenditures under appropriate economic code and item of expenditures, as provided in the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).
Consequently, they directed some agencies including State Water Corporation and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency to re-appear with their political heads for their budget assessment on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.
Meanwhile, Hon. Oladunjoye also examined the budget performance of the State Ministry of Rural Development as presented by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Adekunle Oyesanmi, who represented the State Commissioner for Rural Development, Mr. Taiwo Oludotun.
Oludotun said the Ministry was setting out more strategies towards ensuring improved distribution of power in the rural areas, as well as encourage community participation in the design, development and implementation of water projects, to enhance socio-economic development of rural communities across the State.
Giving analysis of the Ministry’s activities in the period under review, the Commissioner listed various rural electrification projects carried out to include the provision of electrification with solar home system in Atapa, Etiri, Koto-Obo, Sunren Oke-nla, Health centres in Ijado and Lumafon in Ogun West and East Senatorial Districts.
Oludotun added that a solar powered borehole had been provided at Elefun community and two motorised water schemes at Akaka community and Iperu in Remo North Local Government.
The lawmakers also considered the budget performance of the State Ministry of Youth and Sports and Stadia at Ilaro, Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode, among others.
