The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has sued for peace over the clash that occurred between the indigenes of Olokemeji and Fulani herdsmen in Odeda Local Government Area of the State.
The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Kunle Somorin, warned that the government would not condone any act of lawlessness exhibited by individuals or group of persons to cause disunity in the State.
Condoling with victims of Olokemeji skirmishes that led to loss of lives and property, the Governor described the incident as unfortunate, and promised that investigation would be carried out to determine the cause of the clash.
Prince Abiodun, according to the statement, urged the people of the area to shun violence and report any incident to the appropriate authority, noting that Ogun has always been home to people from diverse backgrounds.
“Nobody or group of people will be allowed to compromise the unity that exists between and among all ethnic groups and those who choose to live, play and do businesses in the State.
“It is unfortunate that people take laws into their own hands without involving the appropriate authority. This community and the State in general have always been a safe and secured place with Fulani and indigenes cohabiting peacefully for decades.
“Those criminal elements misleading others through unfounded rumour and speculations that fuel this kind of crisis will not succeed in sowing seeds of discord or inciting people against each other. We will deal with fake news and rumour mongers”, he said.
The statement added that the government was on top of the situation and collaborating with security agencies to ensure that such incident does not occur again, saying appropriate steps would be taken to investigate, fish out the perpetrators and punish them according to the law.
