The Olubadan of Ibadan, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commending his administration’s strides in infrastructure and urban development.

Speaking at Lagos House, Marina, Oba Ladoja expressed gratitude to the Lagos State government for its support during his coronation last year. He described Lagos as a city deeply intertwined with his personal and traditional heritage and praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for notable improvements in traffic management, transportation, and infrastructural development.

Highlighting the state’s transport initiatives, the Olubadan lauded the Blue and Red rail lines and Lagos’ water transportation systems, noting their role in reducing journey times and easing traffic congestion.

Oba Ladoja also renewed calls for a constitutional role for traditional rulers, stressing that formal recognition would strengthen governance and foster closer collaboration between monarchs and government authorities. He clarified that there were no disputes between the traditional institution and the Oyo State government, emphasizing that a constitutional framework would enhance their relationship.

In response, Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Oba Ladoja for his leadership, peacebuilding efforts, and contributions to unity in Oyo State and beyond. The Governor prayed for a peaceful and impactful reign, expressing confidence that the monarch’s tenure would drive development in Ibadan and Nigeria at large.

He said:
“We thank God for your life and leadership in our country. Your tenure as Olubadan will not only be long but transformational for Ibadanland, your state, and Nigeria. Lagos will continue to stand with you and your kingdom.”
