The Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministries, Chris Okafor, has issued a public apology to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala following weeks of controversy surrounding allegations of an unfulfilled marriage promise and related claims.
The dispute, which played out largely on social media and included exchanges of legal threats, escalated after the cleric proceeded with his marriage to Pearl earlier this month.
During a church service on Sunday, Pastor Okafor knelt before the congregation and expressed remorse over what he described as mistakes from his past, while disputing aspects of the allegations made against him.
Addressing the issue, he said: “To the lady called Doris Ogala, we are not joining issues. Mistakes have been made in the past, and I tender an apology to everybody, but not everything that was said is true. There are so many lies in most of the things that were said. For now, I apologise to everyone who was offended. To Doris Ogala, I’m sorry.”
The pastor added that he was prepared to make amends, stating that he was willing to make restitution to anyone he may have offended. He described himself as imperfect and appealed to the congregation and the public for forgiveness, urging them to pray for him.
Reacting to the apology, Ogala said she had accepted it but took exception to the cleric’s claim that her allegations were untrue. In a response shared alongside the apology video on her Instagram page on Sunday, the actress said: “Chris Okafor, I forgive you, but there’s a problem. Where you said everything is a lie. I have a problem with that because I don’t lie.”
Ogala had previously accused Pastor Okafor of being in a relationship with her for several years, allegedly beginning in 2017, and of failing to fulfil a promise to marry her. She also claimed that the relationship contributed to the breakdown of her former marriage and caused her emotional distress after it ended abruptly.
While Pastor Okafor did not directly address the specific allegations during his public apology, he maintained that not all of Ogala’s claims were accurate.
Although the apology appears to have eased tensions between both parties, the episode has continued to attract widespread public attention, with reactions and debate trailing the fallout between the cleric and the actress.
