As Senegal enters a new phase of energy development, Talla Gueye, Director General of Petrosen E&P, the upstream arm of the national oil company Petrosen, has been confirmed as a speaker at the upcoming MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 Conference and Exhibition, taking place from December 8 to 10 in Dakar, Senegal.
The event, regarded as the region’s premier energy platform, comes at a defining moment for Senegal’s oil and gas industry, following several exploration and production milestones achieved in recent months. Gueye’s participation is expected to open new avenues for investment, partnerships, and dealmaking across the sector.
The year 2025 marks a turning point for Senegal’s upstream industry with the launch of two flagship offshore projects. In February, the country began gas production at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) project, achieving its first LNG export in April and commencing commercial operations in June. The GTA project, with an initial capacity of 2.3 million tons per annum (mtpa) and a planned second-phase capacity of 5 mtpa, positions Senegal as an emerging global LNG producer.
For Petrosen, GTA underscores the company’s growing technical and operational capabilities in managing large-scale projects alongside international partners.
Meanwhile, Petrosen is seeking partners to advance the Yakaar-Teranga gas development, which holds an estimated 25 trillion cubic feet of recoverable reserves. Developed in collaboration with Kosmos Energy, the project is moving toward a final investment decision and will primarily supply gas to the domestic market — a key driver for industrial growth and energy security.
In the oil segment, Petrosen achieved another milestone with the start of production at the Sangomar oilfield in June 2024, developed in partnership with Woodside Energy. As Senegal’s first large-scale offshore oil project, Sangomar has a production capacity of 100,000 barrels per day (bpd). The field produced 16.9 million barrels in 2024, surpassing the initial target of 11.7 million barrels, with output projected to reach 34.5 million barrels in 2025. The partners are now exploring opportunities to boost production capacity and develop associated gas resources.
Gueye’s participation at the MSGBC Oil, Gas & Power 2025 underscores Petrosen’s commitment to sustaining the momentum of Senegal’s upstream growth and attracting global investors. The conference will serve as a platform to showcase the country’s ongoing projects and highlight emerging opportunities in the region’s energy landscape.
