The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has commended the management and staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), and Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for recent achievements aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure and improving service delivery across the power value chain.
In a statement made available to journalists, the minister praised TCN for the successful energisation of a new 300MVA transformer at the Katampe Transmission Substation in Abuja, describing the development as a major boost to transmission capacity within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Tegbe also lauded the swift response by TCN and AEDC following the unexpected failure of a 100MVA transformer in the FCT last Friday, which disrupted electricity supply to parts of the nation’s capital. He noted that both organisations deployed technical teams and resources immediately, working round the clock to restore power within 24 hours.
According to the minister, the rapid restoration effort reflects strong inter-agency collaboration and demonstrates the commitment of power sector operators to efficient, citizen-focused service delivery.
The minister further commended NDPHC, under the leadership of its Managing Director, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, for successfully reviving the 450-megawatt Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State. The facility, a key asset developed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP), had remained inactive for three years before being restored to operation.
With the plant now capable of dispatching up to 375 megawatts to the national grid, Tegbe said the development would enhance electricity supply across the South-East and contribute to improved grid stability nationwide.
Reaffirming his commitment to reforming and strengthening the power sector, the minister assured agencies and personnel across the industry that productivity, innovation, and excellence would continue to be recognised and rewarded under his leadership.
He urged stakeholders to remain focused on the collective goal of delivering reliable electricity to homes, businesses, and industries across Nigeria, stressing that sustained collaboration and dedication are critical to achieving the sector’s objectives.
