European champions Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Ukrainian centre-back Illia Zabarnyi from Premier League side Bournemouth, the club announced on Tuesday.
British media reports value the transfer at around £57 million ($76.7 million, €66 million), making Zabarnyi the first Ukrainian to play for PSG. The 22-year-old’s arrival could put pressure on Brazilian captain Marquinhos’ place in the starting lineup.
Zabarnyi enjoyed an outstanding 2024–2025 season in England, helping Bournemouth to a ninth-place finish and earning the club’s Player of the Season award. His departure is part of a defensive overhaul at Bournemouth, who have now sold three of last season’s first-choice defenders, following Milos Kerkez’s move to Liverpool and Dean Huijsen’s transfer to Real Madrid.
Qatar-owned PSG, fresh from their 5-0 Champions League final triumph over Inter Milan in May, also strengthened their squad on Saturday with the signing of highly-rated Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. The move has fuelled speculation over the future of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who has been left out of the squad for Wednesday’s European Super Cup final against Europa League winners Tottenham in Italy.
Donnarumma, 26, was a standout performer in PSG’s European campaign, and his omission is expected to attract interest from several Premier League clubs.
