With the Anambra gubernatorial election scheduled for November 8, residents of the state appear confident of a decisive victory for the incumbent governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo. Many voters describe the contest as an “easy win,” citing the governor’s record of impactful governance and developmental strides across the state.
Findings indicate that Governor Soludo, who assumed office under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), enjoys broad popular support owing to what citizens describe as transformative initiatives that have improved security, infrastructure, and social welfare.
Ogbonna Uzor, a resident of Okpoko, said the people’s confidence in Soludo stems from his “regeneration projects,” especially in Okpoko—a once-neglected slum that has witnessed major infrastructural upgrades. He highlighted the establishment of a new general hospital offering free antenatal care, access to clean water, road rehabilitation, and free education for children as examples of the governor’s tangible impact.
Chinedu Ezekwe, an airport cab driver, noted that although opposition parties, particularly the All Progressives Congress (APC), are campaigning vigorously, the majority of voters remain firmly behind Soludo. “Everybody wants Soludo to continue the great job he’s doing. Anambra is for APGA,” he said.
Ezekwe also commended the governor for completing the state’s new Government House, known as the “Light House,” breaking a 34-year jinx. He cited the construction of extensive road networks, the establishment of the Solution Fun City for recreation and culture, and youth empowerment initiatives as key achievements that have boosted confidence in the administration.
Similarly, Mrs. Chukwura Ifeyinwa from Anaocha described Soludo as “our able governor” and pledged her community’s full support for his re-election. Ms. Ada Eze from Ekwulobia added that despite opposition criticism, residents remain loyal to Soludo, whose infrastructural development has “surpassed his predecessors.”
As the election draws near, political analysts suggest that Governor Soludo remains the frontrunner, buoyed by widespread approval of his performance. His administration’s success is anchored on five policy pillars: security; infrastructure and economic transformation; human capital and social agenda; governance and values; and environmental sustainability.
Anambra recently ranked first in BudgIT’s 2025 State of States Fiscal Performance Index, recognizing it as the best-performing state in Nigeria. The achievement earned Soludo commendations from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described him as a “progressive” and “a friend since 2003.”
The governor’s reforms span multiple sectors, including agriculture, education—where 8,115 new teachers have been employed and schools revitalized—and health, with five new general hospitals established and telemedicine introduced. His administration has also launched free healthcare for pregnant women and extensive youth empowerment programs, equipping over 30,000 young people with digital skills.
Through the enactment of the Homeland Security Law, Soludo introduced the Agunechemba state security network and Operation Udo Ga-Achi, which have significantly reduced crime across the state. His governance model, now largely digitalized, continues to earn praise from residents who see his administration as a symbol of stability and progress ahead of the November polls.
