The President of the Organization of Military Sports in Africa (OSMA), Brig.Gen. Maikano Abdullahi says he is ready to work with the Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria, SWAN FCT Chapter to promote the activities of the 2021 Sahel Games.
He stated this when the ExCo of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN FCT Chapter paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the Mambilla Barracks, Abuja.
He noted that eight countries ravaged by insurgency will converge in Nigeria in October to compete in three sports namely: football, marathon, and golf.
His words, “The aim of the games is for peace, stability and cohension. When we come together, we are sending a message that we can work together. We want to project peace and solidarity and not war. Everyone competiting is a winner, even though we want to send a message across, we will still give them their medals.”
Earlier, the chairman of SWAN, Mr. Bunmi Haruna said the association would like to project the activities of the military, in Nigeria, Africa and across the world.
According to him, “We want to partner with you especially during these games, we want to project Nigeria to the world through the Sahel Games and we are optimistic that the game will be a huge success.”
Nigeria, Cameron, Niger, Burkina-Faso, Mali, Libya, Chad, and Senegal are expected to take part in the games. PSV confident about keeping Nonso Madueke amid link with Tottenham, Palace, Leeds
PSV Eindhoven are confident about keeping Nigeria-eligible winger Nonso Madueke amid speculation linking him with possible moves to Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and Leeds United in the summer transfer window.
The England U21 international has started the 2021-2022 campaign in blistering form, scoring four goals and registering an assist in four competitive matches.
Madueke enhanced his burgeoning reputation with two first half goals as PSV thrashed Ajax Amsterdam 4-0 to win the Johan Cruijff Schaal on Saturday.
PSV Eindhoven boss Roger Schmidt has stressed that the club cannot afford to lose important players after selling
Donyell Malen and Pablo Rosario to Borussia Dortmund and OGC Nice respectively, while Denzel Dumfries is nearing the exit door.
In quotes relayed by Football Oranje citing ESPN, Schmidt said on the future of Madueke: “I’m not afraid, why should I be? He will one day leave PSV if he continues to develop like he is now.
“I’m not afraid it will happen now. We can’t sell key players anymore. We’ve already done that with Donyell Malen,
Denzel Dumfries and Pablo Rosario, so we can’t lose any more.
“And PSV is also a fantastic club for Noni to develop. He is very young, he can play a lot here, score goals and cheer with the team. I think he feels very good here”.
Madueke joined PSV from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2019 and has directly participated in 22 goals in 40 appearances for the club, helping the Eindhoven outfit finish second in the Eredivisie last season.
