Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s steadfast support for the Nigerian Armed Forces, highlighting the state’s commitment to safeguarding the welfare of military personnel and the families of fallen heroes.
The Governor, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, made the pledge on Thursday during the Parade and Wreath-Laying Ceremony marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day at the Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Island.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that the sacrifices of Nigerian soldiers in protecting lives and property deserve recognition and reciprocal support from both federal and state governments. “Today, we honour and encourage our military officials, remember our fallen heroes, and assure them that their sacrifices have not been in vain. The nation stands behind them, and we will continue to support them,” he said.
The Governor also reiterated Lagos State’s dedication to supporting widows of fallen soldiers, noting that such efforts, often conducted discreetly, reflect the government’s commitment to valuing and encouraging military personnel.
Deputy Controller General of the Nigerian Legion Council, DCG Wolimoh Hakeem Olawale, commended the state government for its consistent support to the Armed Forces, particularly the families of deceased service members. He reaffirmed the Legion’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of veterans and dependents of fallen heroes, emphasizing the council’s statutory mandate to care for those who served the nation.
