In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the governor said Chief Akande, fondly called “Baba Omo Kekeke,” remains a role model, noted for his courage, integrity and unwavering dedication to the public good.
Sanwo-Olu commended Akande’s record of public service, particularly his tenure as the first civilian Governor of Osun State in the Fourth Republic, noting that his selfless leadership continues to inspire younger generations in a political environment often perceived as driven by personal gain.
The governor also acknowledged Akande’s pivotal role in the formation of the APC as its first interim National Chairman, as well as his continued elder statesman role in sustaining the party in Osun State, the South-West and across the country.
“On behalf of my family, the government and people of Lagos State, and leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress, I congratulate our father, Chief Bisi Akande, on his 87th birthday,” Sanwo-Olu said.
He described Akande as “a true democrat and respected political icon” who has consistently remained in the progressive camp, advocating restructuring, good governance and true federalism.
Sanwo-Olu further noted that Akande’s commitment to integrity and service, both as Secretary to the State Government and as governor of Osun State, remains a benchmark for current and aspiring public office holders.
“I rejoice with Chief Bisi Akande on his 87th birthday and wish him good health and renewed strength, so the nation can continue to benefit from his wisdom and worthy example,” the governor added.
