Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday commissioned Nigeria’s first integrated energy hub, developed by the Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation (IOGC), describing the facility as a major milestone in the country’s transition to cleaner, affordable and sustainable energy.
Located along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, the facility combines multiple energy solutions, including Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and solar power, making it the first integrated energy hub of its kind in Nigeria.
Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the project goes beyond the traditional concept of a filling station, providing a comprehensive energy solution that supports the future of transportation, economic growth and environmental sustainability.
“This is not just another filling station. It is an integrated energy hub that points to the future of mobility and energy in Nigeria,” the governor said.
He noted that the project aligns with Lagos State’s vision of promoting innovation and infrastructure development while supporting the Federal Government’s energy transition agenda.
Sanwo-Olu said the facility offers motorists and businesses cleaner and more affordable energy alternatives, adding that affordable transportation remains essential to sustaining economic activities in Africa’s largest city.
The governor explained that Oshodi was selected as the project location because of its strategic importance as one of Nigeria’s busiest transport and commercial corridors, serving thousands of commuters and transport operators daily.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for driving the adoption of compressed natural gas through the Presidential CNG Initiative, describing the programme as a key catalyst for Nigeria’s evolving energy landscape.
Sanwo-Olu urged regulators and industry stakeholders to work closely with state governments to replicate similar projects across the country, stressing that the transition to cleaner energy should be treated as a national development priority.
He expressed confidence that the energy hub would reduce transportation costs, stimulate economic activities, create jobs and attract additional private sector investment into Lagos.
The governor also praised the management of Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation for pioneering the initiative, saying it demonstrates that government-owned enterprises can successfully combine commercial viability with public service.
Earlier, the Managing Director of Ibile Oil and Gas Corporation, Temitayo Gbajumo, described the facility as Nigeria’s—and possibly Africa’s—first integrated energy hub.
He said the project forms part of the corporation’s plan to establish 19 CNG stations across Lagos in support of the Federal Government’s clean energy programme.
According to Gbajumo, the Oshodi hub is unique because it provides CNG, LPG, EV charging, PMS and AGO services within a single facility, giving motorists multiple energy options.
He disclosed that four CNG stations are currently operational across Lagos, while 12 additional stations are under development.
The new facility, he said, is designed to serve between 200 and 300 vehicles daily for petrol and diesel, while its CNG section has the capacity to dispense about 7,000 standard cubic metres of gas per day.
Gbajumo added that the hub includes a vehicle conversion centre, enabling motorists to convert petrol-powered vehicles to compressed natural gas at a subsidised cost of about ₦700,000, covering both the conversion kit and installation.
He said the initiative is intended to make cleaner and more affordable transportation accessible to more Lagos residents.
The managing director further disclosed that four additional CNG stations are expected to become operational before the end of October, with six more currently under construction, adding that all 19 stations are expected to be completed before the end of the year.
He noted that existing CNG stations in Agege and Ogudu already serve large numbers of tricycles, cars and trucks, each dispensing approximately 5,000 standard cubic metres of gas daily.
