Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has congratulated former chairman of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Babatunde Balogun, on the occasion of his 75th birthday.
Balogun, a member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), turned 75 on Friday, March 13.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu described Balogun as a principled, dedicated and respected politician whose contributions to governance and politics have had a lasting impact on both his constituency and the state.
The governor commended Balogun’s service to Lagos, particularly during his tenure as Commissioner for Home Affairs and as chairman of the ruling APC in the state.
“On behalf of my wife, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the government and people of Lagos State, members of the Governance Advisory Council, and leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress, I congratulate Alhaji Babatunde Balogun on his 75th birthday,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu described the former APC chairman as a seasoned politician committed to good governance and the delivery of democratic dividends, noting that he contributed significantly to the development of Lagos during his time in public office.
He added that Balogun has remained a respected political figure in Lagos, particularly in Apapa, and played a key role in strengthening the ruling party in the state, including during the 2019 general elections.
The governor also highlighted Balogun’s role as chairman of the 40-man Lagos APC Campaign Council during the July 12, 2025 council elections, which he said contributed to the party’s victory.
Sanwo-Olu prayed for good health and continued service for the elder statesman, expressing hope that he would remain active in supporting his community, the APC and national development.
