Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has donated ₦75 million to the Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Legion in a gesture aimed at supporting Legionnaires and the families of fallen heroes. The donation was announced during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Launch held at the Lagos House, Marina, on Monday.
The ceremony, attended by top government officials, service commanders, and representatives of the Nigerian Legion, also saw the governor launch the appeal fund ahead of the annual remembrance day slated for January 15, 2025.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of retired officers and their families, particularly the elderly. He further promised to donate housing units at the Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Housing Estate in Ikorodu to provide shelter for vulnerable and aged members of the Legion.
Additionally, the governor pledged to support the Nigerian Legion with security vehicles and equipment, recognizing their readiness to contribute to the protection of lives and property in the state.
Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Legion, Akeem Olawale Wolimoh, commended the governor’s consistent support, noting that last year’s ₦50 million donation had been effectively utilized for members’ welfare.
The event also featured the decoration of the governor, his deputy, and other officials with the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem.
