Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Thursday officially opened Irele Tower, a new nine-storey commercial complex in the Lekki Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), Ibeju Lekki, marking a major boost for Nigeria’s maritime and industrial economy.
The tower, constructed by Lagos Free Zone (LFZ), is the first of six planned commercial buildings designed to drive business activities in the international trade hub that hosts Nigeria’s deepest seaport. It offers six premium office floors, retail spaces, a rooftop café with terraces, and a multi-level car park, providing a world-class work environment for businesses across logistics, maritime trade, and export facilitation.
In his remarks, Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the project as a testament to public-private collaboration, saying it reflected Lagos State’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for investors to bring capital, vision, and expertise to the market.
“Irele Tower strengthens Lagos State’s vision for a globally competitive industrial and commercial hub. It complements the Lekki Deep Seaport and broader industrial corridor, offering modern commercial spaces and direct access to global shipping routes,” he said. “The development unlocks the full potential of the Blue Economy, streamlines supply chains, lowers logistics costs, and positions Lagos as a premier destination for global investors.”
Sanwo-Olu noted that the tower would translate the maritime potential of Lagos into tangible economic value for residents, reinforcing the city’s status as a self-sustaining economic cluster with proximity to Nigeria’s largest consumer and industrial markets.
LFZ Managing Director Adesuwa Ladoja said construction began in September 2022, with structural work completed in 2024 and ancillary facilities finalized two years later. The project was completed in one million man-hours without a single accident, she added.
Irele Tower is set to serve as the commercial and administrative anchor of the Lekki Free Trade Zone, supporting businesses in financial services, trade, and logistics, and advancing Lagos State’s ambition to harness its maritime resources for sustained economic growth.
