Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the passing of elder statesman and boardroom icon, Dr. Christopher Kolade, as a monumental loss to Nigeria.
Dr. Kolade, a veteran broadcaster, diplomat, and former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, passed away on Thursday morning at the age of 92.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the death of the respected technocrat, teacher, and administrator marked the end of an era in Nigeria’s corporate and public life.
He noted that Dr. Kolade’s distinguished record as a celebrated broadcaster, teacher, and corporate leader — including his tenure as Chief Executive and Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc — would remain indelible for generations to come.
“On behalf of my family, the government, and the people of Lagos State, we celebrate the departure of a legend and doyen of the boardroom, Dr. Christopher Kolade, who made a remarkable impact during his lifetime,” the governor stated.
“The legacy of Dr. Kolade cannot be forgotten because of his extraordinary life of service to humanity and his contributions to both the private and public sectors, locally and internationally. He lived a life defined by integrity, faith, and honour,” Sanwo-Olu added.
The governor expressed gratitude for the elder statesman’s exemplary life and prayed for strength and comfort for his family, friends, and associates.
“I pray for the repose of his soul and that God grants his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Sanwo-Olu said.
