Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to illegal occupants and structures along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, ordering their immediate removal as part of renewed efforts to restore order and improve environmental sanitation across the state.
The directive follows the state’s monthly sanitation exercise conducted in areas including Ojuelegba, Surulere, and Kosofe, where officials assessed compliance with environmental regulations.
Sanwo-Olu said the initiative underscores the need for collective responsibility between the government and residents in maintaining a cleaner Lagos, adding that enforcement actions will be intensified against violators.
He also ordered the demolition of illegal structures along the affected corridor, warning that the state government would not tolerate unapproved activities along major highways.
From next week, the governor said the state would commence full clearance of the median along the expressway.
“From next week, we are coming to clear the entire median. Everything there will go,” he stated.
He further urged residents to support ongoing environmental efforts by paying waste bills promptly and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the government has procured an additional 150 compactor trucks to strengthen waste collection logistics across the state and improve service delivery by Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators. He also noted that a new landfill management plan is being developed to enhance efficiency in waste handling and reduce turnaround time.
