Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed security agencies to identify and arrest those responsible for the vandalism of the Festac-Alakija Bridge.
The governor condemned the incident as “barbaric and criminal” and warned that anyone found responsible would face the law.
In a statement signed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on Friday, Sanwo-Olu said the state would not tolerate attacks on critical public infrastructure.
“Lagos will not tolerate any act of vandalism because it is barbaric and criminal,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu said officials of the Office of Infrastructure had inspected the bridge and confirmed that its structural integrity remained intact.
He added that remedial work would be carried out immediately to protect the bridge’s columns.
Describing the vandalism as “horrendous, shameful and condemnable”, the governor said Lagos had no place for violence against public infrastructure and other facilities.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around public facilities to help protect them from further attacks.
“Anyone who is found to be culpable in this horrendous, shameful and condemnable incident will surely face the law,” Sanwo-Olu said.
