Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to consolidate the achievements of his administration over the past six and a half years by completing and commissioning major transformational projects across key sectors of the state in 2026.
The governor said the initiatives, driven by the THEMES+ development agenda, would be funded through the 2026 budget, tagged “The Budget of Shared Prosperity,” which is currently before the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Speaking on Sunday at the 2026 Lagos Annual Thanksgiving Service themed “Grateful for Unfailing Mercies,” held at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, Sanwo-Olu said the final full-year budget of his administration is anchored on four pillars: a human-centred approach, modern infrastructure, a thriving economy and effective governance.
He disclosed that with an expenditure profile exceeding ₦4 trillion, the 2026 budget is designed to deliver a cleaner, safer, more prosperous, resilient and inclusive Lagos.
According to the governor, the thanksgiving service provided an opportunity for the state and its residents to express gratitude to God for His enduring mercy and guidance over Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu said residents would benefit from extensive construction and rehabilitation works, including new and upgraded educational and healthcare facilities, youth and sports centres, drainage and flood control systems, bus and ferry terminals, housing projects, water schemes, waste management plants, court buildings and the Omi Eko project, among others.
“We are now four days into a new year, with 361 days ahead of us—each day filled with promise, potential and opportunity to improve our state, our country and the world,” the governor said. “By the special grace of God, Lagos State will not waste this abundance of opportunity.”
He noted that 2026 holds special significance as his last full year in office, adding that he is determined to make it count through deliberate and decisive actions that will deliver lasting benefits to Lagosians.
Among the projects scheduled for completion and commissioning in 2026, Sanwo-Olu listed the Ojo General Hospital, Odo Iya-Alaro Link Bridge, the new Massey Children’s Hospital, the Central Food Security Systems and Logistics Hub in Epe, the new Psychiatric Hospital in Ketu-Ereyun, Epe, and a new multi-storey office complex in Alausa.
He also outlined major road infrastructure projects to be delivered this year, including the Igbogbo–Bola Ahmed Tinubu–Igbe Road; Agric Isawo–Konu–Arepo Road (Phase One); Gberigbe Road from Ewu Elepe through Gbodu Junction to Gberigbe Town; and the Adamo–Akanun–Agunfoye–Lugbusi Road, all in Ikorodu.
Other projects include the Opebi–Mende Link Bridge and its approach roads in Ikeja; Phase 2A of the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway from Eleko Junction through Awoyaya to Greensprings, and from Majek to Abraham Adesanya; the Magbon–Alade Township Roads in Ibeju-Lekki; as well as the Ijegun–Ijagemo Road and the Akesan–Igando Road in Alimosho.
During his address, the governor acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, crediting them with initiating the annual thanksgiving service during Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos State. He also commended religious leaders for their continued prayers and support for the state.
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and his wife, Oluremi; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mudashiru Obasa; current and former public office holders, as well as religious, traditional and political leaders.
The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, read the first lesson from Psalm 89:1–8, while gospel ministers led praises and hymns. Clerics also offered prayers for President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu and their families, the Lagos State Government and residents of the state.
