Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday swore in seven new Permanent Secretaries, charging them to set high performance benchmarks in public service delivery.
The appointments bring the total number of Permanent Secretaries named under the current administration to 129. The new appointees were inaugurated alongside members of the Lagos State Health Service Commission at the Banquet Hall of the State House in Alausa.
Addressing the officials, the governor stressed that the role of Permanent Secretary is not ceremonial but central to governance, describing them as accounting officers, custodians of institutional memory, and key drivers of policy implementation.
Sanwo-Olu said the scale and complexity of governing Lagos required efficiency, integrity, and a strong commitment to service delivery, noting that the state’s economic size and population place high expectations on public institutions.
He urged the appointees to align with the administration’s THEMES+ agenda and to demonstrate discipline, accountability, and professionalism in their respective ministries and agencies.
The governor also emphasised that their selection followed a rigorous process that assessed both competence and character, adding that public service in Lagos demands not only technical expertise but also integrity and leadership under pressure.
Speaking on the newly constituted Lagos State Health Service Commission, Sanwo-Olu said the body was established to ensure merit-based recruitment of healthcare professionals, stressing that improved service delivery in public health facilities depends on the quality of personnel.
He called on the commission’s chairman and members to uphold transparency and accountability, noting that their decisions directly impact the well-being of residents.
Earlier, the Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, said the appointments reflect the state’s commitment to placing qualified individuals in appropriate roles to enhance governance and service delivery.
The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries were subsequently deployed to various ministries, departments, and agencies across the state.
