Adamawa State-born Senator Ishaku Abbo finds himself once again at the center of controversy, following the release of a viral video allegedly linking him to a sexual scandal. This comes just two years after a previous incident during his first tenure in the Senate, where he was caught on camera assaulting a breastfeeding mother in a sex toy shop in Abuja.
The latest scandal erupted late last week when a video surfaced online, showing a light-skinned man engaged in sexual intercourse with a woman alleged to be married. To the surprise of many, Senator Abbo’s name was quickly attached to the video, though no credible sources have confirmed or substantiated the claim.
In response to the growing controversy, Senator Abbo addressed the issue during a press conference on Thursday evening. He vehemently denied being the man in the video, questioning how anyone could identify a person without seeing their face or body, apart from parts of their legs. “How can you identify a person without seeing his face, his body, only parts of his legs and you said it is Senator Abbo,” he remarked.
Abbo, who was removed from the Senate earlier this year by an Appeal Court ruling, accused his political opponents of orchestrating what he described as “timid blackmail.” He asserted, “Blackmail cannot stop me from winning elections. A senator from one of the northern states was shown in a sex video with his entire body, but he still won an election to the Senate, and his wife won an election to the House of Representatives. My people love me. No amount of blackmail can stop me.”
The embattled senator also threatened to pursue legal action against those he suspects of being behind the circulation of the video, warning that attempts to tarnish his reputation would not advance the political interests of his detractors. Despite the scandal, Abbo expressed confidence in his continued support among his constituents, citing his performance during his time in the Senate as a reason for their loyalty.
The controversy surrounding Senator Abbo remains unresolved as the identity of the individual in the video has yet to be conclusively determined.
