Vice President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday visited Mokwa, Niger State, to assess the damage caused by the May 28 flood disaster, which has claimed over 200 lives and displaced thousands.
During the visit, Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Murtala Bagana, revealed that 265 buildings were either destroyed or severely damaged. In addition, two major roads were affected and five key bridges collapsed, including the strategic Goodwill Bridge along the Mokwa-Jaba Road.
The Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Niger State Traditional Council, Yahaya Abubakar, commended the Vice President’s visit, applauding President Bola Tinubu for swiftly authorizing emergency relief interventions for the devastated communities.
Meanwhile, displaced residents have continued to voice concerns over the poor condition of temporary shelters and the inadequate supply of food and other essentials.
