Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has commissioned a newly constructed 5-kilometer road in Ezinifite, Aguata Local Government Area, built by Chief Anthony Obele, a private citizen and native of the community. The project, executed through a pioneering public-private-community partnership (PPCP), exemplifies a collaborative approach to infrastructure development in Anambra State.
Unlike typical government-initiated projects, the road holds personal significance for Governor Soludo, as it lies within his constituency. The freshly tarred road, cutting through key neighborhoods, is expected to improve transportation, stimulate local commerce, and enhance the daily lives of residents.
At the commissioning ceremony, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, noted that Soludo praised Chief Obele’s commitment as exemplary, describing the project as a model for sustainable community development that goes beyond government capacity. The Governor highlighted the importance of combining private initiative, public support, and community participation to accelerate infrastructure growth across the state.
“Government alone cannot achieve the speed of development we need. Our people are all over the world, making a difference. We celebrate those who return to answer the call,” Governor Soludo said, urging Anambra indigenes to invest in their communities. He further stressed that even small contributions, such as paving a short stretch of road, can have lasting impact when done for public benefit.
Chief Anthony Obele, the philanthropist behind the project, said his motivation stemmed from a desire to contribute meaningfully to community development. He commended the Governor’s vision and leadership, emphasizing that tangible contributions define true greatness. “We are proud of your leadership. This is just the beginning of what we’ll do,” he said.
Residents of Ezinifite, including the Traditional Ruler and the community’s President General, hailed the road as a symbol of hope and empowerment, demonstrating that bottom-up development can deliver tangible results when citizens actively participate in shaping their communities.
