Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has restated his administration’s commitment to modernising aviation infrastructure across the state, as he commissioned a new Protocol Lounge at the Chinụa Achebe International Airport, Umueri.
Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo described the new facility as part of a broader, multi-phased plan to upgrade airport infrastructure, improve passenger experience, and position Anambra as a competitive hub capable of attracting regional and international air traffic.
According to his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the Governor noted that enhancing aviation infrastructure remains a key component of his development agenda, with direct benefits for job creation, skills development, investment growth, and improved air connectivity.
“By upgrading our airport infrastructure and delivering a world-class Protocol Lounge, we are not only improving passenger experience but also signalling to investors that Anambra is open for business,” Soludo said. “This is about jobs, growth, and sustainable development for our people.”
The Governor also highlighted the need for continuous collaboration with federal aviation authorities and international partners to ensure adherence to global safety and operational standards.
Aburime explained that the newly commissioned Protocol Lounge is designed to offer a secure, comfortable, and efficient environment for visiting dignitaries, government officials, and other high-profile travellers. The facility includes dedicated check-in points, executive seating, private waiting rooms, and strengthened security features.
Stakeholders present at the ceremony—including the Commissioner for Transportation, Barr. Patricia Igwebuike—said the upgraded facilities would stimulate commerce, tourism, and investment across Umueri and the wider Anambra State.
The Chinụa Achebe International Airport has remained central to the state’s aviation growth ambitions. Officials say the new Protocol Lounge is one of several ongoing modernisation efforts aimed at aligning the airport with international standards.
