The Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision last week, ruled that the Court of Appeal had no jurisdiction to affirm Abure’s chairmanship, describing the matter as an internal party affair beyond judicial purview. The court also noted that Abure’s tenure had already expired, and upheld the appeal brought by Senator Usman and another party member, dismissing the cross-appeal filed by Abure’s faction as lacking merit.
Obi emphasized that internal party reforms were essential to ensuring that the Labour Party could credibly challenge the current administration and advocate for Nigerians suffering under deteriorating economic conditions.
“We must stand together and ensure that the right things are done — starting from our party,” Obi said.
